THE LADIES TAKE MANHATTAN

GIRLS WEEKEND IN NEW YORK

I really never had the desire to go to New York, but the occasion came
up
so I went. Carol, Ida, Michelle and I took an adventurous
trip to New York City. I had the best time with these girls.
you know sometimes people are not compatible, and we threw in a new
mix, I knew Michelle and I were compatible in traveling together,
but the mix worked out great. Ida and Carol fit right in. We laughed
so much and had a blast!!!!

Where do I start. Carol, Ida and I flew out of San Antonio and Michelle
picked us up at the BWI airport. The first thing we did was pick up
crab cakes
to eat on the way to New York. Our drive there was funny,
we joked and laughed and had a good time.. Some of the things we laughed
about I truly cannot type in here, but there was a story about a Donkey
in Mexico
…and how unnatural that poor Donkey’s life was!!!.
Also some pretty weird HBO shows that Ida told us about.
It took us 3 hours to get to Staten Island, but with all our laughing,
The time flew by really fast.
Michelle’s friends live on the Island, and we parked our car there.
Benjie was
so sweet, he drove us to the ferry where we began our adventure.

On the ferry, it was quite late in the evening and the statue of
liberty was lit up.
What a beautiful site to see. On the ferry we met a man, in his 50’s
that was very talkative
(well he had a huge beer in his hand too) And of course at first we
were apprehensive,
but he ended up being quite helpful and showed us which subway to take
and then he said ok ladies
you are on your own. We took the subway to Manhattan, and Greenwich
Village. Erica’s apartment is sooooo cute! But sooooo small. 400 sq
feet, and there were 4 of
us, however, we managed to have a corner of the area for each of us,
and we got
along just fine in that small apartment. Thank you so much Erica!!!!
Without her
I do not think we could have afforded this trip.
Anyway, we dropped off suitcases and took a cab to Times Square. Where
we picked up
our New York Pass at Planet Hollywood. I have never seen such bright
lights.
WOW… I thought Vegas was bright, Times Square is lit up so much, it
looks
like daylight there at night!!
We walked around and ate at Bubba Gump’s.. Had some pretty good
seafood. After that we were tired so we went back to the apartment and
slept..The first night was an adjustment, due to the
fact that Greenwich Village does not sleep.. Lots of traffic and noise,
and voices underneath
her place. There was a café right underneath us!!!

On Saturday morning we were up bright and early, and our first stop was
NBC
tour. That was quite interesting, to see where SNL was filmed and all
the secret
things they do to get a show on the air. Michelle got to do a film,
being a weather
Girl. She did quite well!! Everybody on the tour was complimenting
her. After the
NBC tour, we walked over to St Patrick’s Cathedral. We took that all
in, what a
magnificent church. After that we decided to squeeze in the Statue of
Liberty
and Ellis Island before lunch. We got in a cab and asked the cab
driver to take us
to the Statue of Liberty, I think he was new, because he wanted an
address????
WE GOT OUT!! AND CAUGHT ANOTHER CAB!!!

The new York Pass we had purchased really helped us out a lot.
Bypassing some long
lines and really made our time more efficient.

We did not get off the boat at the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island,
but we took some pictures.
I figure next time we go, we can do the tour for Ellis Island.

After the boat ride, we took a cab back to Times Square to meet my
friend Della at
Planet Hollywood for lunch. We all had fun, reminiscing and she
brought pictures
of her kids and family. Thanks Della for taking the time to come see
us in the
Big Apple!! One of the funnies of that afternoon, is how beautiful
Della is and
how she does not look her age at all. Well Ida was asking, her secret.
We all decided she was preserved because she lived in Canada for 10
years,
and the cold preserved her!!! Too Funny.
After we said our good byes to Della, we went to the Empire State
Building and did that tour. We went to the observation tower and with
our pass
we were able to listen to Tony the Cab drive narrative tour.. That was
a bit
annoying at times… we finally just turned him off… The wind was cold
and strong , but we took some spectacular pictures from there. After
this tour
We ended up going to the apartment to get ready to go out on the town.
Well
we were so tired, we walked up to a wonderful restaurant/bar called
Pasti’s
which was about 5 blocks away. Needless to say, us redneck girls needed
some explanation on the menu. None of us knew what cockles were??
and Penne Putanesca, I knew Margie had made it, but could not remember
what was in it???? So the waiter had to explain the menu to us.. he was
patient and we got through the night ok. It was a bit pricey, but for
New York,
I guess it was reasonable. We had great plans to keep on bar hopping,
but
our bodies could no longer take it. We went back to the apartment and
crashed.

Sunday morning, we were up bright and early and ventured on the subway.
Now here is the funniest experience yet. All 4 of us were seated on one
side.
The maps of the subway were in front of us on the wall, so Michelle
moved over to the other side
to check out the map, well her seat was taken almost immediately.
so now she was seated next to 3 guys (hispanics) and there was maybe a
10 inch
space between her and one of the guys. Well at the next stop, this man
gets
on with a stinky salad, and squeezes his butt inbetween Michelle and
the other guy.
The salad smelled to high heaven, and Michelle was making faces.
Needless to
say, Ida and Carol and I were laughing so hard, our faces hurt. To
make
matters worse, another man gets on and is looking over her head leaning
over her
and his armpit is right in her face. HAHHAHHAHAHA.. We have never
Laughed so much, Carol had to take a picture… cannot wait to see that.
Bless her heart, finally a spot opened up next to me and she moved
over..
It was toooo funny.

We made it to Ground Zero and spent a moving
morning, just looking at a gaping hole with a huge fence around it.
The saddest sight was the cross left behind from the wreckage.
Too eerie. After this we had breakfast there at Burger King
and then took the subway to Central park.
Central park is so big, we walked a little of it
and took some pictures of the statues, Especially Alice in Wonderland.
It is a magnificent park, and just being there where Jackie and John
John, I
am sure ventured out to, and John Lennon was awesome. After that we
walked a bit and some girls helped us get the subway to Times Square
so we could finish our shopping, and head back to Baltimore.

Ida, Carol and Michelle kept talking about Mr Big??? And Carrie
And Samantha, I pretended to know what the heck they were talking about
until finally I said OK WHO IS MR BIG? So they explained all about
Sex in the City, which I had only seen a few episodes of, but obviously
These girls knew them all by heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So needless to say
I have a lot of catching up to do before our next trip. (When we got
back to Baltimore, Mike rented us the first series of Sex in the City,
so I got to see Mr. Big!!

Our shopping experience entailed NBC store, and Hard Rock, and then
the Harley Davidson store, We also saw Sponge Bob, The Money Man,
and Spiderman!!! However in between all that bustle, while we
are at the Hard Rock, Carol runs inside and says hurry hurry,
The Naked Cowboy is out there, let’s go see!!! Well that had been
a big part of what I wanted to see in New York, so I ran outside, and we
gathered ourselves and went to see the Naked Cowboy and got our pictures
taken with him. I have to say he is cute, well built and has a great
sense of
humor. Kind of funny!! Ida was shy, but that is all the girl could
talk about
all the way back to Baltimore!!

Our N.Y.trip ended……….We headed back to the ferry, after a very long
cab ride, and said goodbye to New York. We drove back to Baltimore and
made it in 2 ½ hours, back to more crab cakes and some sex in the city.

Mike took us to the airport early Monday morning and all 3 of us made
it back
in one piece. Sleeping most of the way back!!!

THANKS MICHELLE FOR COMING UP WITH THIS WONDERFUL IDEA FOR
A TRIP…
IT WAS EXHILARATING AND WE WILL HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN!!

BUILD WISELY

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his
employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business
and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended
family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They
could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he
could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said
yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work.
He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an
unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the
house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your
house," he said, "my gift to you."

The carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was
building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. So it
is with us. We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less
than our best into the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to
live in the house we have built. If we could do it over, we'd do it
much differently. But we cannot go back. You are the carpenter.

Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. "Life is
a do-it-yourself project," someone has said. Your attitudes and the
choices you make today, build the "house" you live in tomorrow. Build
wisely!

Remember....
Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody is watching.
Pass this on to someone you like. I did!

"Happiness depends on circumstances, Joy depends on God"

FAMILY

I heard today that I take things too seriously. I do because I care. I care about life, family and happiness for all. Although I am starting to understand that happiness for some is not always the same as what it means to me. Dysfunctional families, reap dysfunctional outlooks on life. I cannot fix those who need fixing, or comprehend why my outlook on life is not the same as others.

God bless all of you tonight..
